The City of Buchanan, Michigan (population 4,300) is seeking candidates to serve as their next City Manager. Buchanan is known throughout the state as the home of the Thrill on the Hill, RedBud MX and the Buchanan Promise. It’s important for the new City Manager to treat Buchanan as if it’s your hometown.
Located in picturesque Southwest Michigan, Buchanan is an easy drive to Chicago and the University of Notre Dame. If you prefer the waterfront, Lake Michigan is so close you can hear the waves. The region is known throughout the Midwest for producing bountiful fruit crops. There is nothing more delightful than an early Fall drive in the country enjoying the aroma of the region’s fruit vineyards.
The City Manager reports directly to a five-member City Commission and is responsible for a vast number of city services including police, fire, water, wastewater, parks, elections and solving customer concerns. The City Manager also oversees and prepares the annual budget.
The City Commission isn’t requiring past service as a City Manager. Rather, city leaders have a deep commitment to recruiting candidates who have a passion for public service, successful project management and outstanding leadership skills. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate all three traits to be Buchanan’s next leader.
