Nature of Work: Performs a variety of routine and complex clerical tasks involved in the processing of civil, criminal, and/or traffic cases. Works under the supervision of the Court Administrator. Exercises occasional supervision over parttime court employees and assists court employees on any changes to computer software, etc. Attends seminars and workshops related to administrative duties and responsibilities. Have a general understanding of all court procedures.
Examples of Work Performed: Answers phone and responds to citizen inquiries regarding court matters. Accepts court payments as a cashier. Prepares court cases as the Civil Clerk which requires confidentiality. Adjourns cases and sends out notice of change. Inputs all data entry for misdemeanors, civil infractions, criminal, traffic, parking cases on a daily basis. Prepares weekly notices regarding pre-parking, defaults, show cause notices, suspension of driver's licenses, scoffers and filing of parking infractions. Prepares civil claims forms. Types mittimus when a bond is posted. Processes complaint misdemeanors after they have been signed and mails related correspondence. Pulls warrants from Public Safety Department as requested. Runs plates and driver’s licenses when necessary through Public Safety Department. Purges computer records biannually.
Requirements
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of general office procedures; working knowledge of legal language and legal procedures; some knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices. Skill in operation of a personal computer system, including word processing, Microsoft Office and Windows, specialized court software, 10-key calculator, typewriter, phone, copy machine, fax machine and recording system.
Ability to effectively communicate on a one-to-one basis with the public; maintain effective working relations with employees, other departments, officials and the public; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to type and enter data accurately.
Desirable Educational Skills: High school graduate or GED equivalent with course work in typing and general office practices; three years of prior court experience in clerical, secretarial, paralegal or administrative work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
