Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: An employee in this classification must be able to perform technical and skilled work at the Waste Water Treatment Plant in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic, Electro-Mechanical, analog and digital systems and instrumentation utilizing up to 4800 volts.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the supervision of the Waste Water Treatment Plant Facilities Engineer or other as designated by the division head.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following:
Exercise supervision over employees assigned to assist.
Inspect, install, service and repair electrical and mechanical systems and instrumentation such as switchgear, distribution systems, motors, motor controls and starters, as well as signal, measuring and control devices such as are used in sewage treatment systems.
Act as crew leader, providing technical work and expertise in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical and instrumentation equipment utilized in sewage treatment systems.
Assure that all new installations meet applicable electrical and building codes.
Work in close coordination with computer instrumentation staff and mechanic staff to accomplish necessary work.
Prepare bid specifications and estimate the cost of electrical and instrumentation repair work.
Act in a lead or assistant role for calibrating field instruments and measurement devices.
Advise Waste Water Treatment Plant staff on proposed electrical repairs and electronic, analog and digital instrumentation repairs and system modifications.
Operate motorized vehicles such as forklift, man lifts or other equipment as necessary.
Recommend and carry out preventative maintenance procedures.
Maintain spare parts, stock and order parts as necessary.
Prepare reports, maintain records and review plans, schematics and electrical diagrams.
Perform related work as assigned.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
Considerable knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and instrumentation systems of a modern Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Thorough knowledge of standard practices, tools, materials, equipment and troubleshooting procedures employed by a maintenance electrician.
Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
Considerable knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electricity, power, light, signal control and communication systems.
Ability to climb and work at moderate heights, ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to lay out, assign and supervise the work of employees assigned to assist.
Ability to order materials and equipment for proposed modification and maintenance work.
Considerable skill in locating and correcting defects in control, communication, power and lighting circuits and systems.
Willingness to respond to off hour and emergency call outs.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
One year of experience servicing electronic control systems.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited high school, G.E.D. equivalent or equivalent trade school.
o Diploma or official, sealed transcripts REQUIRED with application - Work experience as a journeyman electrician in an industrial and/or commercial setting.
- Licensed as an Electrical Journeyman with the State of Michigan.
o Copy of licensing required with application - Experience with Microsoft suite of software, printing, scanning and email.
- Possess a valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Michigan.
- Driving record must meet city standards for insurability.
Pay rate: $76,130/year - $87,150/year (After 5 years)*
*Does not include the contractual increase of 7/1/26
