THE POSITION
Grand Blanc Township is seeking a dynamic leader to fill the role of Fire Chief. As we kick off 100 years of service to the community, our next Fire Chief will understand the importance of the chain of command throughout the organization and command the respect of his team in all they do. The Chief will be a visionary that can develop a strategic plan with the help of the men and women who choose to serve in the fire service, believing that holding themselves, Department Officers, and all firefighters accountable is the only way to guarantee success in carrying out the mission. The Fire Chief will plan, develop, implement, and administer all operations of the fire protection program for Grand Blanc Township. In addition, our next Fire Chief will be visible in the community and be a tireless advocate for highlighting the success of the Department.

Financial and Administration
Perform a range of advanced administrative duties, including project management, policy development, grant writing, and equipment procurement. Ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreements, employee handbook, department SOPS, and Township policies. Foster employee development through training, and provide counseling or disciplinary action when needed. Demonstrate expertise in managing municipal budgets, including the creation and implementation of annual budgets, while effectively prioritizing resources.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Fire Administration or equivalent, ten (10) years of practical fire suppression experience and five (5) years serving as a Fire Captain or higher.
- Must have completed Firefighter I, II, Fire Officer I, II and Fire Officer III curriculum or equivalent.
- Must have certificates for NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800.
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment screening that includes drug testing, physical testing, and a background check.
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Fire Administration, Fire Science, or equivalent
- Certification from Fire Staff and Command class
- Experience with grant writing
